I was starting to get a post together about my usual “grace in small things”, but then I realized that I wasn’t feeling very grateful or gracious.  I have so much to be thankful for, but right now I’m just feeling… not.

Hello, Monday!

  • After making fun of countless people for wearing skinny jeans, I did NOT purchase a pair this week, simply because I was at Banana Republic and they had a pair in my size for less than $13… plus 10% off, plus a gift card.  Would I ever give in to a fashion craze simply because it became cheap?  No way!  Not me!
  • I did NOT completely freak out when Harrison could not stop vomiting for 30+ minutes and rush him to the vet because I was so worried.  I did NOT tell the vet that I know what to do with people when this happens… but have no clue what to do with a dog!  I did NOT almost cry the whole way to his office because all of the possibilities of the causes of this intractable vomiting.  He is NOT fine now.  I do NOT have the best vet ever!
  • I did NOT cry the entire way through the “Grey’s Anatomy” season premiere.
  • I did NOT forgo my organic meat convictions and buy regular chicken because it was $1.99/lb.

Phone Calls

We recently got a home phone and we’re sort of starting to regret it.  Apparently our number used to belong to a woman who didn’t tell anyone that she changed her number.  So now we’re getting a bunch of confused Spanish callers… sometimes they don’t believe me when I tell them that I don’t understand them because what little I know actually sounds pretty decent.  Also, we are being inundated with sales calls and offers for free stuff.  We don’t know if they’re just trying to gain our personal info, case our house, or just sell us something.

At first I was sending everything to the answering machine… but they just keep calling until you answer!

I put us on the “do not call” list yesterday… but it takes a month to go into effect!  Maybe I just won’t answer the phone for a month.

One night this week I did NOT wake up in the middle of the night practically screaming because my leg hurt.  This did NOT wake up my husband who asked if I was okay and then promptly fell back asleep.

I did NOT stay up for a while because I was afraid that I had a blood clot in my leg.  I was NOT afraid that it would become an embolus and cause a heart attack or stroke.  I did NOT assess for heat and redness when I got up to use the bathroom as an excuse to assess my leg.  I did NOT have to fight the urge to run into the other room to grab my nursing textbooks and look up the symptoms of a DVT (deep vein thrombosis).  One of the reasons that I did NOT use for staying in bed was that moving around could cause a thrombus to dislodge.  I did NOT pray asking God to take me quickly if I were to have a stroke and would just be a vegetable.  I then did NOT ask Him to let me live because it would screw Andrew up royally to wake up to a dead wife in the bed.

After falling asleep, I did NOT have a dream that I was in the ER and it was indeed a DVT that needed immediate treatment.

I am NOT fine now.  I am NOT a hypochondriac.  I did NOT almost certainly have a charley-horse.

I’m Singing

I heard this song on the radio as I was driving home from work today… and it made me feel joy and sadness at the same time.  Before I had this song in my head, I was singing “Jesus, Come Quickly” by Mercy Me and on the verge of tears… so “I’m Singing” is better.

By Kari Jobe

Only one name lasts forever

Only one fame stands alone

Only one key has an anthem

That goes on and on and on

And I’m Singing to the God who brings redemption to the nations

Kings and oceans bow to Him in praise

And I’m Singing to the God who wrote the book on our salvation

To the One who covers me in grace

I’m Singing

Only one word in the beginning

Only one truth will prevail

Only one love brings you freedom

Only one Man took the nails

And I’m Singing to the God who brings redemption to the nations

Kings and oceans bow to Him in praise

And I’m Singing to the God who wrote the book on our salvation

To the One who covers me in grace

I’m Singing

Praise, Praise to the Savior

Praise, to the Lamb Of God

Praise, in all of His splendor

Praise, for saving my life

And I’m Singing to the God who brings redemption to the nations

Kings and oceans bow to Him in praise

And I’m Singing to the God who wrote the book on our salvation

To the One who covers me in grace

And I’m Singing to the God who brings redemption to the nations

Kings and oceans bow to Him in praise

And I’m Singing to the God who wrote the book on our salvation

To the One who covers me in grace

To the One who covers me in grace

I’m Singing

I’m Singing

I’m Singing

I’m Singing

Not Me Monday!

This week, I certainly did NOT make about five trips to Target to get one thing, return it at another, and then have to go back to the original waaaaay across town.

I also did NOT go to a new grocery store this week, (one where you pay a quarter for your cart and then get it back when you return it) and could not figure out how to reconnect the carts to get my quarter back.  Also, when another customer offered to give me a quarter, I was not totally confused and I did not stare blankly at the woman until she handed me the quarter and took the cart.

I also did NOT do many other things… but I did not write them down and cannot think of them right now… so that’s all for this week!

Yes!

I finally have internet and cable again!  I am so excited that I can rejoin the modern world, although, I have to say, I got a lot done when there was no TV or Facebook to distract me.  I got my house (mostly) painted, got drapes (after about 500 Target runs), all of our furniture moved in, and the house (mostly) set up.  I still have a lot of little things at the old house, but we have most of our essentials with us.

Tonight we were able to have my sister-in-law and her family over to show off our new house, and the park that has lake acess right across the street.  It’s so nice to finally be in our first home!!!
